Gastric bypass is surgery that helps you lose weight altering the shape and path of the stomach such that it changes the way the small intestine and body handles food. The stomach is made smaller by surgical stapling, whereby the stomach is divided into a small upper section and a large lower section. The smaller, walnut sized upper section called pouch is where the food that is consumed through the mouth goes. The surgeon then connects a part of the small intestine to the pouch so that the food that is eaten goes directly into this new opening. Because of this, the body will not get all of the calories from the food you eat and hence consume fewer calories thereby aiding weight reduction.

I feel like I have won the lottery and have been given a second chance in life! March 25, 2014 was the first day of the rest of my new life and I can’t even start to express in words how grateful I am. Today, 2 years later and 50kg

Today, 2 years later and 50kg less I am a new person. No walker, no cane, no huffing while climbing stairs. I am completely cured of diabetes and off all those meds. No medicines for blood pressure or cholesterol. My heart is doing awesome and I am vibrant and active. I spend a lot of time with my grandchildren and could not be happier!
